How we verify listings

Every company starts on the free Standard list. Verified is a free check by a person. Featured is the one paid spot, and it is always labeled Sponsored. Here is what each one means and what it takes.

The three levels

  1. Standard

    Free, every company

Every listing starts here. It begins as the company's public Google Business record. We keep companies that are open, have at least one Google review and do kitchen work, and we read each company's own website for the services it says it offers. Standard means that and nothing more.

  2. Verified

Free, after a check by a person

The listing shows the Verified shield and the date of the check. It takes a claim from the company and two matches, described below. A company cannot pay for it.

  3. Featured

    Paid, always labeled Sponsored

A card at the top of a town page, at most 3 per city, and never above the first unpaid listing. It does not change a rating or the order of the unpaid listings, and it is not a check. A Featured company is not Verified unless it has passed the check. Ask about availability.

What a person checks for Verified

The owner or a manager sends the claim form for the listing. A person then checks two things.

  1. The email domain matches the website. The email used for the claim must end in the same domain as the website shown on the listing. A free address such as Gmail does not count, because anyone can have one.
  2. The phone matches the listing. The phone number given in the claim must be the phone number on the listing.

When both match, the listing gets the Verified shield and the date of the check. If either one does not match, the listing stays Standard. The site never verifies anyone on its own. A person makes the call every time.

Verified is checked again once a year. If a re-check does not pass, the listing goes back to Standard.

What Verified does not mean

It is not a check of licenses, insurance or the quality of the work. Illinois has no statewide general contractor license, so ask your city or village what it requires, and ask the company for proof of insurance before work starts. Ratings on every listing are Google's, with the date we read them (October 19, 2026 for this build). Our guide on how to choose a kitchen remodeler covers what to ask before you sign.

Report a problem

Anyone can report a problem with a listing, Verified or not: a wrong phone number, a company that has closed, a shield that should not be there. Use the contact page or email hello@kitchenremodelersillinois.com. Corrections and removal requests are handled within the week. Every listing page also has a correction link.

Questions about Verified

Can a company pay to be Verified?

No. Verified is free and a person does the check. Paying for a Featured spot does not make a company Verified, and Verified does not change a company's place in the ranked list.

Does Verified mean the company is licensed or insured?

No. Verified only means the email domain matches the company's website and the phone matches the listing. We do not check licenses, insurance or the quality of the work. Illinois has no statewide general contractor license, so ask your city or village what it requires and ask the company for proof of insurance before work starts.

How often is a Verified listing checked again?

Once a year. The date on the shield is the date of the latest check.
